A New York Times best seller, Spring Stinks by author and illustrator Ryan T. Higgins is a comical book about the beginnings of spring. It features a grumpy bear and an overly excited rabbit that wander through nature to discover all the smells of nature. The illustrations are highly detailed with drawings of nature and friendly animals. The story takes place in Soggy Hollow, and the story begins with a bear and rabbit as they start smelling together. The rabbit named Ruth wants the Bruce the bear to smell things, but his expression tells the reader he is not up for the challenge. Ruth tries to get grumpy Bruce to smell the grass but shows his displeasure with a grumble. They go to the daisies, the trees, and even a wet moose for a good smell. But Bruce doesn’t like those smells and shows his unhappiness of being taken along the journey of smells. Ruth seeks to get Bruce on her side by bringing him to some honey, but they are met with some bees. Bruce ends up getting stung with hilarious results and the story ends with one last smell that will leave the reader contemplating the smell.
