A picture book called The Good Egg by Jory John and illustrated by Pete Oswald with illustrations that are cheerful and amusing. The story is about a good egg that does what good eggs do by helping others and always doing what he’s supposed to do. He watches and tries to correct his brother and sister eggs when they stay up too late, break their things, or throw tantrums. The other eggs did not care and eventually the egg cracks under stress. The Good Egg decides to leave the carton and wanders for weeks alone. He decides to focus on taking care of himself instead of others and little by little the cracks disappear. The lessons he learns is that it’s important to be good to yourself, treat others right, and not worry too much. The story ends with a welcome home and a realization that no egg is perfect.
