On the New York Times Bestseller List Eyes that Kiss in the Corner written by Joanna Ho and illustrated by Dung Ho, which is a story that recognizes one’s heritage and the beautify within it. The illustrations are filled with culturally significant drawings and colors. The story begins with a young Asian girl who notices her eyes are different than others around her. When she is with her mother, she notices her mom has the same eyes as her “that kiss in the corner and glow like warm tea.” Their time together is filled with laughs and love. When she spends time with her grandmother, she recognizes that grandmother’s eyes are like her mother’s eyes. Her grandmother fills her with stories and activities from their culture. When she spends time with her little sister Mei-Mei it like spending time with her grandmother except the roles are switched. A story of passing down one’s heritage while recognizing our own beautiful differences.
