New York Times Best Seller Hair Love written by Matthew A. Cherry and illustrated by Vashti Harrison is a picture book that is a dedication to hair acceptance that is sometimes not seen as accepting in society. In this story, a little girl named Zuri is proud of her special hair. Her hair is curly and coiling and makes her feel like a superhero. Her cat Rocky plays with her and wakes up with her on her special day. She sees her dad sleeping and is empathetic about how hard he works so she is careful not to wake him up. Zuri goes to the bathroom to fix her hair, but Rocky ends up waking up her dad. Her dad wants to help fix her hair but ends up creating an unappealing hairdo. They end up watching a video on a tablet that helps them figure out the best style. Zuri is happy with her new hair style and her mom shows up as they all get together for a proud family photo.
