A graphic novel written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak about Max a little boy who dresses and acts like a wild animal. To the dismay of his mother, he acts like a wild thing in the house, and she sends him to bed without supper. Slowly his room is transformed into another world where he can escape his prison. He sails on his own private boat until he reaches the island where the Wild Things live. Max becomes their king, but he feels lonely and no longer wants to live with the wild things. Suddenly, he smells something to eat far across the world and decides to leave the island. He reaches his room where love and a hot meal are waiting for him. Parents can use this story to explain to children the consequences of punishment, but that they will always be loved. The illustrations are unique and powerful that will engage a child of any age. The colors of the creatures blend with their surroundings, which helps bring the world of the Wild Things to life.
