A Caldecott Honor winner by author and illustrator David Weiner is a take on the old story The Three Little Pigs. The story begins innocently enough as it did from the original story as the wolf is about to blow down the first pig’s straw house. Then, out of nowhere, the little pig is blown off the pages into the white pages outside the story. The pig is aware of the unusual circumstance and goes to help his fellow pig brother in the house made of sticks. The pigs sneak into the white area behind the story and the wolf is perplexed to why the pigs are not in their houses. The two pigs end up helping the third pig escape and this leads the pigs escaping into other fairytales and nursery rhymes. The story ends with a humorous encounter of the pigs and their new friends encountering the wolf. Teachers, parents, and students will enjoy reading this story that pumps creative twists into an old story. The illustrations are done in a comic book style with soothing colors.
