A graphic novel written by Cece Bell and illustrated by David Lasky. The story is about Cece’s experience of developing meningitis, dealing with her disability, and understanding the intentions of people around her. Cece’s listening device is embarrassing and heavy, which makes her feel she stands out amongst the rest of the students in her school. Yet, her device gives her special abilities like listening to what the teacher is saying in private conversations. She tries to fit in by making friends and this leads her on a journey of gaining and losing friends. A story of struggle and humor that will speak to those with and without a hearing impairment. The illustrations depict the characters as bunnies, which makes this story more child friendly. The book is in comic book style, which also helps in making the story more kid friendly. Teachers can provide this reading as a lesson in sensitivity.
