A graphic novel of stories in comic book style with illustrations and colors that are simple yet effective in entertaining the reader. There are eight eclectic stories to choose from in this modern perspective. The first story is about a kid named Daryl seeking to join a super-secret ninja squad only to be rejected because he lacks the skills. He practices throughout winter recess to be worthy of joining only to learn after he returns from break that the squad has moved on to dodge ball. He uses his skills to show what he has learned during winter break. They are shocked to see what he has learned, and the squad ends up becoming Daryl’s followers. The next story is about Dog Man a superhero dog and Petey a criminal cat that seeks to destroy all the books in the world. Petey ends up erasing all the books in the world making the whole world dumb. Dog Man seeks out the last remaining books in the world, which belong to Petey. Dog Man gives them to schools so the children can become smart again. The story ends with Petey getting captured by Dog Man and all the books in the world return to their normal state. The third story is about Betty and the Perilous Pizza Day where she must make pizza for the students on her own because the other lunch lady is sick. In hilarious fashion, she ends up making a pizza monster and having to track it down after it escapes into the school. Luckily, she destroys the pizza monster before it does any serious damage. The last five stories are as different and entertaining as the last. Teachers and librarians will get their students reading with these enjoyable and kid-friendly stories.
